Instructors: Please do not aggrandize yourself by minimizing student efforts. Your control on students is short-lived; anything other than encouragement is malicious. Grading papers lower than failing is mean-spirited and reflective of your own disappointment more than a students: stop puffing yourself up at a student's expense.

responseYou really think there shouldn't be failing grades?! How would anyone know who is excelling and who should try something else. Higher Ed is a competition amongst all students. If you scored less than failing it must have been a terrible paper.
