Major: Education (This Major's Salary over time)
I am going to be a senior education student and I have loved my experience at Indiana Wesleyan. My department is great. Sometimes, it seems as if there are too many expectations or too much competition, however, it forces students to work hard for what they want. The majority of my professors have been knowledgeable and helpful. However, there are always a few that are not so good at explaining things or are not very helpful. Overall, the course work is difficult because of the amount required and the high expectations. However, I feel as if I could not be more prepared to do my student teaching this year. The overall community of the campus is good, however, it depends greatly on where you live. The freshman dorms Shatford and Bowman, and Hodson hall have by far the best community. They are set up a bit like a Sorority or Fraternity feel and the people there truly are caring and wonderful. However, community is what you make it. There will be people who seem closedminded or cruel. There are also a lot of great people. There are plenty of on campus activities through a variety of organizations to get involved in. If you want to be involved, you can be! The leadership in the dorms (RA's etc.) are awesome. They are very helpful and most seem to genuinely care about you. The Christian college aspect is one that I greatly appreciate. I would say that it is a Christ centered school. Although it has it's faults in this, such as sometimes feeling as if we live in a "bubble", the overall feel is that the core is in the right place. If people have a negative view of the spiritual atmosphere, it is probably because they have an issue with the rules. However, the rules are made known on the application, therefore, no one should be surprised by them. Some may be difficult to follow at times, like the no dancing rule, but remember that you signed up for it. Overall, the rules do not detract from the fun and community of the school. I have never regretted coming to IWU. Chapel is also another aspect of the spiritual development. Chapel can be good or bad, you are the one who decides. I believe chapel is greatly influenced by your attitude. There are times when speakers may seem boring, but the majority of the time they are interesting and relevant. Overall, I can not say enough about how much I have loved my time at IWU. It was not always easy, but I received a quality education that I believe prepared my for life as a teacher. I grew spiritually and made a lot of great friends. I would not trade my experience for anything.
