Despite it's image and ever-increasing popularity, Boston CoSuper BrilliantEconomics
Despite it's image and ever-increasing popularity, Boston College is not a school for everyone. The student body in particular is quite a self-absorbed bunch that hardly lives by the school's alleged set of high values. Housing placements for freshmen leave about 40% of them completely isolated from the Main Campus where all of the University's facilities and buildings are. They are instead placed on Newton Campus, which contains the University's Graduate Law School instead of anything useful to freshmen themselves. Registering for your classes is completely arbitrary and as an underclassmen, you will almost definitely end up with a bad selection time, and therefore bad classes overall. Because the University's Student Government, UGBC, has a quite publicized feature where students can review their professors, and read others' reviews, the good classes are well-known and are quickly filled before you have the opportunity to register at all. While dorm food is generally of decent quality, it is horrendously overpriced. I personally am planning to transfer from Boston College after this year and strongly reccommend considering your other college options instead of coming here.

Boston College appears as an idyllic college fromSuper BrilliantHistory/Histories (art history/etc.)
Boston College appears as an idyllic college from the outside, but in reality is marred with ridiculous problems including capricious registration and housing systems that will largely determine your experience there for better or worse. While BC's student body seems outwardly friendly, it is largely a homogeneous and cliquish one without much real tolerance beyond superficial notions of political correctness. Although BC has made great strides in trying to change its reputation from that of a heavy "drinking school," don't be fooled. A great majority of BC students can still be described as drinkers and partiers in my opinion. While BC has recently become a "hot" school to apply to, I strongly reccommend against doing so.

Although BC can be labeled as having a "homogeneous" environment, you can find tremendous diversity. Often when choosing BC, you choose it because you know you will find kids very similar to you. That's why the student body is really friendly. The social atmosphere cannot be matched, and you will find genuine and good-hearted people everywhere you go. School pride is impressive and just adds to the dynamics of this closeknit community.
