Yuck! I really hate this place with aSuper BrilliantEnglish
Yuck! I really hate this place with a violent passion. Do not go here if you are from a big city or even the suburbs of a big city because the upstate life is REALLY, REALLY, REALLY boring!!! It sure ain't Brooklyn up here or even Westchester or Nassau County for that matter. There is NOTHING, and I mean NOTHING to do in Binghamton and not even anywhere to walk to...all we have for 'town' is this big ugly highway (Vestal Parkway) with a bunch of strip malls with chain restaurants, not to mention it takes at least 10 minutes to get off this monstrocity of a campus by foot. The townies are mostly toothless hicks and hate Binghamton students. Once I heard a local call a synogogue a "Jewhouse". I heard the Binghamton chamber of commerce actually proudly advertises that Binghamton was once the New York State Ku Klux Klan headquarters. Eating the campus food is going to make you want to die. Don't be fooled by the administration's PR bullshit and how Bing is the "Ivy" of the SUNYs. That is such a crock of shit, most people here hate it and are only here because it's cheap. The natural beauty of the area isn't even all that breathtaking, just a couple of dirty little rivers and slippery walkways in the winter.

Question
I've been here a year and a halfBrightEconomics
I've been here a year and a half and I just can't seem to like this place. Sure Binghamton has a solid reputation and it's cheap, but that's about it. The university and the student body are just absolutely miserable. The surrounding area is trashy and dead. Everyone is from Long Island. There are a handful of out-of-state students. International students? Some Indian engineering students, that's it.School spirit is abysmal because nobody wants to be here. There is absolutely NOTHING to do in Binghamton whatsoever except get drunk at shitty frat parties. The town is so boring and depressing. The weather is also absolutely dreadful, the food is god-awful, and the university just doesn't care about the students at all. In fact, nobody here really cares about this place. Binghamton is seen by most of the students to be nothing more than a diploma factory and I don't know if I can take 2 1/2 more years of this. But no I'm not well-off so I'm stuck at this shitty upstate hellhole. I wish I could have gone somewhere like Manhattan College because that's like 20 minutes away from home and it's in a city. And a lot warmer. God I hate Binghamton so much. Definitely a mistake for me.

Question
I must admit that there are 7 reviewsBright
I must admit that there are 7 reviews of Binghamton on this website that I authored last year. I just wanted to say I had an awful freshman year in comparison to now and wish to recant many of the negative things I said about this university. Your experience at Binghamton hugely depends on what “community” you are in, and if it is right for you. I lived in Newing last year and moved to Hinman as a sophomore and the two communities are different worlds. People in Hinman are actually normal, agreeable, respectful, studious, friendly, and spirited people, and it doesn’t feel like you are at SUNY Albany as it does in Newing. People in Hinman actually like this place and don’t sit around all day drinking and complaining about how life is so much better on Long Island. I was totally incompatible with the vast majority of people in Newing and subsequently was unable to make any friends and had a long, miserable, depressing year. Hinman is also all suites and I really feel it helps foster a sense of community and facilitates making friends, which is important for a shy person like me. Suites also do not feel like prison cells as do corridor-style rooms in Newing. Sure it would be nice if the weather were better or the campus were prettier but I’ve found that those were not the real reason I was so unhappy. I also griped a lot about the food in my reviews but it really does seem more edible with time. I know I’m not the only person who says you’ll hate Binghamton your freshman year and then it grows on you, so keep that in mind if you just got here and can’t stand it. I know when you first enter it seems like a long road ahead but by sophomore year you will feel like you are on your way to somewhere.
