I am kinda shocked by what people arePolitical Science
I am kinda shocked by what people are writing. I HAD to go to a state school because it was what we could afford and I never regret attending Binghamton. It was a great time with traditions and culture that I couldn't wait to explore. It was so easy to make friends- even friends of different backgrounds, religions, ethnicities, and wealth. Many of my HS friends went to expensive top-class out-of-state schools and were miserable. I loved every month in Bing and every day created a new memory. I was involved in the SA, joined a fraternity, was an RA and lived off campus. I feel as if I knew everyone and it was not because I was from Long Island (and yes I know the geography of the rest of NY). I also didn't think the food was that bad- perhaps the people who complained about the food were Italians who were used to having gourmet meals cooked by their moms every night. As for me- the food was sufficient with plenty of choices.

And don't forget the finer points of Binghamton:

All classes are 4 credits, not 3.
The school is a BARGAIN.
Binghamton has a reputation. You say you went to Binghamton and your employer is impressed.
The cost of living is CHEAP. I can buy a house on riverside drive with what I have in the bank. Wait til you see rents in the real world (or even gym memberships).

So stop complaining- find your niche, get involved, and try a spedie! Make the most of it- Bing has a lot to offer. To change a chines proverb a little bit... Binghamton opens the door, you must enter by yourself.

Question
Based on the lack of student intellect here,Quite BrightUndecided
Based on the lack of student intellect here, if this is the so-called "Ivy of the SUNY's" I'd hate to see what the other SUNY's are like! That Ivy thing is such bullshit too considering how hideous this monstrocity we call 'campus' is. Yeah, lots of ivy here. Beautiful buildings. Yep. The engineering building and Science IV especially.

If you're from anywhere near anything that could be considered a remotely big city you'll probably wind up regretting being in the middle of nowhere. Binghamton is basically a joke among the downstaters here, who are actually 75% of the undergrads while the university claims the figure is 57% (looks like they just reversed the digits to appear to be more geographically diverse). And that's not just an intuitive feel, call me a loser with nothing better to do, but I actually went through the student directory, randomly selected 500 names, and wrote down where everybody was from. The most over-represented areas were 1) Rockland County, 2) Nassau County, 3) Westchester County. NYC is slightly underrepresented but has a large presence on campus since it is 42% of the state's population. (It's 33% here)

This place is so irritatingly liberal that it turned me, a registered Democrat, into being pro-war just because I want to dissent with the ignorant hippie idealistic naive protesters. Yeah, like Saddam Hussein is a great world leader and leads the peaceful, happy country of Iraq and everybody adores Saddam and one day the big bad United States told Saddam to get out and then they invaded and boo hoo! The U.S. is just murdering innocent Iraqis for no reason! YOU FUCKING HIPPIES DIDN'T YOU SEE THE IRAQIS CHEERING ON TV WHEN WE TOPPLED SADDAM! THE MAN IS SATAN IN DISGUISE!!! Sorry but sometimes war is necessary to achieve peace! If somebody started assaulting you in the street would you take it and say, "Hey, peace dude!" ??

Well back to why this college sucks...
I swear these campus cops crack down on EVERYTHING! I read in the "Police Report" in the school paper that an underage student was arrested for throwing up after getting back to campus from drinking. How ridiculous is that?

Also if you're shy or withdrawn it is more than difficult to make friends here because lots of cliques come here and people don't bother to make friends outside of who they already know

And another thing if you leave the front door of a dorm building open it sounds an alarm like we're in the middle of a dangerous cityThe social life is also beyond horrible, especially if you don't like to get wasted - i swear this place is as bad as Albany. This place makes me miss high school as pathetic as that sounds!
