If you aren't a sorority whore, don't bother,Quite BrightPolitical Science
If you aren't a sorority whore, don't bother, you won't make friends. If you don't like dancing on poles at frat parties, don't bother because you won't have a social life.

I had ONE awesome class/professor my entire year at Mason, and it was his last year there anyway. Everyone is EXACTLY the same, and if you're artsy in any way, do not expect to meet or see anyone like you. There is absolutely nothing to do on campus. That was a blessing for me though, because I spent virtually all my time studying and therefore got a 4.0... which made it easier to transfer out of that hellhole.

Question
Oh where to begin.BrightPreMed and Medical
Oh where to begin. First off GMU has its pros and cons like every other school on one hand its a great place to get an education on the other it LACKS a social life in general.

To say the least most of the teaching faculty here on campus ARE helpful (of course there will always be some bad apples, but that's common for every university). They actually care for their students' success and go out of their way to help them with their work, which in turn helps them in the long run. I actually found myself going to visit my professors on a regular basis during my first semester here on campus, and the professors WERE a big help to my coursework even the ones students generally mispercieve as being "harsh" or "mean-spirited" just from their looks and in class attitude.

GMU has an above average campus that is beautiful in its own right, but I feel that most of the time it gets bogged down by the people coming and going to and from campus, most of them too busy to make friends or even greet you with a simple and friendly "Hello". Social Life in general is DEAD down here like I mentioned earlier so if you want that classic college experience along with challenging schoolwork you will only find one of the two here as the University Police are usually more obsessed with bullying around college students just to get them in trouble. Overall GMU is a fine academic institution if you want to get an education and not get the full college experience. But if you're an outgoing person who wants to get the full college experience along with the academics look somewhere else pure and simple. This is the cold, hard truth about GMU, great for academics lacking in the FULL college experience. For me I'll be staying for abit longer but after that I will be transferring to UVA.

Question
Do not come here.Quite BrightCommunications
Do not come here.
I was a freshman and by mid-september I decided to transfer. I would consider those 15 weeks a complete waste of my life had I not have been able to transfer into a better school next semester. Do not believe what the admission counselors and tour guides say, there is nothing to do on campus. Everyone here can agree that the campus is completely desolate on the weekends, certain food places shut down and you can walk across campus and see about five people. George Mason is a COMMUTER SCHOOL! Everyone here is from Virginia- therefore a majority of students go home on the weekend. If you are an out-of-state student it is hard to find connections because people rarely seem to leave Virginia. Although George Mason is relatively close to DC, it takes on average an hour and a half to get into Foggy Bottom taking public transportation.

I want to emphasize that I started this semester with an open mind. I have never had trouble making friends, I am extremely outgoing and I like to have a good time. The only social scene here is Greek Life, and if you want to be looked at like a piece of meat at fraternities then sure go ahead. Honestly, If you really want to go to George Mason, then go for it. I am just writing this for the people who are unsure, or who haven't heard much about George Mason. Please take this into consideration, I wish I had known these things before I applied.
