GMU is an awesome place to go to school.BrightPolitical Science
GMU is an awesome place to go to school. If you ask me it's one of the best kept secrets of the college community. The Priceton Review has listed this school as a best value school amoung the most academically outstanding in the nation along with Princeton, Yale, UNC Chapel HIll, and UCLA to name a few.(Forget US NEWS and World Report, Mason doesn't pay to take part in it's rankings.) Coupled with a beautiful campus within close proximity to Washinton DC, Mason can offer much more to it's students besides academics than many, many other schools in the country can not. It's a viable alternative to those students who are thinking about GW, American or Georgetown. So, think outside the box and check it out!!

Question
GMU was once a commuter school that wasQuite BrightPolitical Science
GMU was once a commuter school that was basically the 'next step' for those who had attended Northern Virginia Community College.

That's becoming far less true with each passing year. The university has several campuses, many outstanding programs, resources, and modern facilities of all types.

There are still more commuters than your average campus, but a huge amount of resources are put into things to do. Many are lame, but no less lame than those on any other campus.

The campus police and the rules in general are a little more strict than some others--it's not a party school. It's in the middle of Fairfax and not in the middle of a farm, so the have good reason for their rules.

The key to enjoying GMU is to figure out a program of study you enjoy (we have almost everything) and then get involved with Student Government, Greek Life, or almost any organization on campus. Also, be prepared to attend the most diverse campus in the country.

Question
Great school that is located near a lotComputer Science
Great school that is located near a lot of the major headquarters of big companies. It offers a lot of great networking opportunities and I was able to find a good paying stable job before even graduating.

GMU holds job fairs every semester and has excellent job placement resources. It's a commuter school and a good part of the student population consist of older students and working professionals. It may not have the same prestige as other VA state schools like VaTech or UVA, and you won't necessarily get the "college experience" but Mason will prepare you for the working world.
