I think that UMass Amherst can be an extremely good fit for many people. There are a lot of opportunities to get involved in things you like and the majority of people I've met have been nice. As with anywhere there are people who are jerks, but you just have to stay away from them. I highly recommend visiting if possible. Each individual person just has to get a sense of a university and UMass is a good place if it fits for you.
