Major: History/Histories (art history/etc.) (This Major's Salary over time)
Colgate has wonderful academics for the most part. There's a prof or two that is really boring or condescending or both. However, the majority are really good and friendly. They're willing to help outside of class and they really take an interest in seeing each student succeed. They're really interested in their fields and some require that you attend outside lectures, film, etc. That's not a problem though because most of them are really good and they give a better understanding of the topics being discussed. Although the academics are great the social scene is a total bust.Social life at Colgate accomodates one type of student: the rich New England/Mid Atlantic WASP that wears. The only other group that probably thrives here socially is the jocks. There's way too much drinking. There are so many functioning alcholics here. It's just sickening. The only things that the majority of the students here care about are getting drunk, getting laid, getting a high paying job, getting high, and keeping up their grades. Intellectuals are frowned upon as are students who don't really fit into the "WASP" category that most Colgate students do fit into. There's not really anywhere you can escape to. The town of Hamilton is cute at first glance but after a week you start to hate it. There's four bars where students tend to get drunk at. There's a little club that is open on the weekends but that gets tiresome after a while. Frat parties prove a lot of the social options that exist here. I personally don't want to go to any. I would feel totally out of place because of my race, gender, and anti-drinking views. Syracuse is 45 min away and it doesn't provide may alternatives to Hamilton. Although a trip to the Carousel might help to relieve the depression you might feel after being on the campus for a month. All in all the only thing I will apreciate after graduation from Colgate (if I don't transfer somewhere else first) is the name on my degree.
