What makes me university good? Well, that's easy…NOTHING. I go to a church off campus and that's about the only positive experience I ever have here. There is a lot people should know before they decide to come here, stuff that isnt in the promotional booklets. People should know that if you are Greek, drunk, a whore, stupid, shallow, arrogant, and closed-minded, then this is probably not the school for you. Oh yeah, it also helps to be a rich, white, conservative. The students are not friendly, the are excluding and judgemental and do not like anyone who is not exactly like them. The faculty do not "get to know their students", they do not invite you to their house for dinner, about half your professors probably wont know your name unless you make a special effort to get to know them. Many of them come to class totally unprepared to lecture and just seem to spit out unorganized babble. Dont get me wrong, there are some good professors here, and they do generally know their subject, many of them just tend to be very poor teachers. In my experience, some professors tend to grade unfairly, reducing grades simply because the student does not express the professor's opinion in his or her paper, regardless of how well it is written. The food options are terrible, there is no "regular" food generally available like one might expect at home. There is no group dining, everyone eats whenever they want whereever they want, often alone. There really isnt anyplace for students just "hang out" except when studying, there is nothing to do on campus besides homework. There is no sense of community, and depsite having the number one basketball team this year, there is little sports enthusiasm compared to other schools. The library is terrible, it's a popular study place but it is impossible to do research there. Freshman are totally isolated in their own dorms two quads across campus from all the upperclassmen. It is as though everything about the university was specifically designed so that people will have as few "real" friends as possible, and this is what tends to happen. Also, they have a long list of mindless divisional requirements that will take up two years of your time and which you basically have NO CHOICE in and will probably be bored to death and this leaves you little time to take classes you are really interested in, which is what college is supposed to be about. Oh, and it's not really as hard as people say it is, "work forest" and all that stuff. Probably not much more work than you had in high school and most of the people here arent very intelligent and are drunk many mornings which is why they complain. I am an agreeable person and I have always considered myself one of the happiest people I knew. However, since coming to Wake Forest, I have been miserable nearly every day. I have never hated a place so much as I hate Wake Forest. I constantly regret coming here and given the chance to do it over again, I would go almost anywhere but here. In fact I plan to transfer as soon as I get the opportunity. Basically, I strongly advise everyone against coming here, unless of course you are an arrogant, close-minded, slutty, conservative idiot (not that all conservatives are idiots). Or unless you just enjoy being miserable.
