Major: Economics (This Major's Salary over time)
Most of the Economics faculty is friendly and helpful, however, the department prides itself on giving out few A's. While this might seem good an academic standard to curb grade inflation, sometimes the cut offs between A's and B's are arbitrary. Also, the Econ department has embraced the concept of undergraduate research, so if you are an ambituous student and want to take the initative, there are great opportunities available. I believe what makes a school is the caliber of the students. The truth of the matter is that Miami is a school of extremes. There are some students who are focused, ambituous, and work hard and wind up at top ten graduate schools and law schools; However, others, about 75% of the student population is destined for a life long career in middle management. In conclusion, if you work hard at Miami you can go places, but if you decide to be the typical Miamian don't expect much in terms of return on investment.
