Before arriving to "Gatorland" keep in mind that housing off-campus is terrible. There are some nice condominium buildings being built, but be careful to test out the quality of the construction (e.g. sound permeability, how loud the lunatics that live above you are going to be when they're jumping around). As far as academics of the U are concerned.. Its probably like any other state university. Nothing wonderful. The science classes require a fair bit of work to do well in. There's a lot of weeding out of pre-medical students. The most important thing is to find a satisfying place to live - a place where you can study in peace. The libraries close at 6 pm on Saturdays and 1 am on weeknights. - I would say that UF does not provide students with a great studying environment.
