Major: Nursing (This Major's Salary over time)
I absolutely love Belmont!! I've been here for two (starting on three) years, and I honestly cannot imagine being anywhere else. I'm from a town about 30 minutes away from Belmont. In the past year I went home twice. I can't take myself away. I'm a nursing major so I do spend a lot of time studying, but I also have a lot of fun here. All those music kids put on great shows. The theater department has amazing performances. The sports teams are also nothing to sneeze at. Our Bruins Basketball team went to the Big Dance last year and looks like they may do it again. As for the academics, I had no idea how prepared Belmont would make me for the "real world." I'm taking care of real patients in a real hospital and gaining experience like I never could have dreamed. The charge nurse on the unit where my clinical group worked commented on several occassions that we were very well prepared and really knew our stuff. I'm just a junior, and I have already had two job offers for when I graduate. I spoke with a friend who is in a nursing program at another college. Her jaw fell open when I told her of some of what I had been doing. Sitting in on an open heart surgery (as in standing at the head of the bed-two feet away from the beating heart), teaching local pregnant teens how to care for their babies, working in a world-famous cardiac hospital and all the other great experiences I have had. A lot has been said about the religious aspect of Belmont recently. I'm not really a religious person. Belmont is definitely a Christian university. If you want to be involved, there are tons of local churches and University Ministries on campus brings great opportunities for local and far away missions. However, I have never been made to feel bad for not attending church every Sunday or for not being extremely religious. Every person is allowed freedom to find what fits best for them. The opportunities are there if you want them, but you are in no way forced to participate.
