Miami is as diverse as the NHL and as socially conscious as Marie Antoinette. If you are white, wear Seven Jeans, Polo, NorthFace, and pearls, and are looking to go to school with people who are exactly like you, then look no further than Miami. I can count the minority population on one hand. Regardless of Miami's efforts to change the stereotype, the student body simply will not allow it. Miami's J CREW U reputation is well deserved. Basically everyone here is white, has a lot of money, has only been around white people with a lot of money, and wants to be at Miami to continue in this general pattern (hence the high percentage of Miami mergers).

Socially, you better join a fraternity or sorority, or you can count on not having a lot of friends. Also, if you are not a functioning alcoholic, other people here will have a hard time relating to you. If you are just a regular person, who does not enjoy flauting material wealth, and you don't drink/drink on occasion/don't get black out drunk, you can fit in SOMEWHERE but it's not easy.

My classes are about the only things that I've enjoyed at Miami. I've gotten really lucky with professors who really care about me and what I learn a lot. I've had the opportunity to speak to prominent scholars in my field and am already building relationships for when I apply to grad school.

Bottom line: you can get a good education for a decent price, especially if you are in-state. But I cannot wait until i graduate and leave these snobby, yuppies behind. Miami should not expect one cent from me in alumni donations.
