Major: Undecided (This Major's Salary over time)
I've finished my freshmen year in Sewanee and absolutely love the atmosphere. The classes are small and it's easy to talk to the professor and, depending on the individual, get help with an assignment. You can really build a personal relationship with the professors and they can help you work on your strengths and weaknesses and help you to decide what you want to do with your years at the university. The extracurricular activities may not be the best in the country (our sports SUCK) but it allows nearly anyone to get involved with what they want to do. If you're looking for a really strong, athletic school, this probably isn't the place for you.I've loved the social atmosphere. Something like 90% of students are involved in greek life. There's a sorority/fraternity for nearly every individual, not just the typical frat guy or sorority girl. These organizations really help the students to get involved amongst one another and create families.Students must live in the dorms all 4 years, unless they have special permission. Which really isn't that bad, since you get to pick the dorm and there are some fairly nice ones. Food is decent, compared to some schools. Of course, it may get repetitive, but it really is pretty good.It takes nearly a half hour to get anywhere else (Wal-mart's, Sonic, etc). It gives the mountain a "bubble" feel, where you kind of forget about the outside world. But, it kind of sucks when you want to escape for a while.Tradition is important at Sewanee, which can be both negative and positive. It's somewhat conservative values may be off putting for many individuals, but some of the traditions create a great sense of community (getting your Sewanee angel at the gates, going to the cross, etc). I've loved Sewanee, but it definitely depends on the individual. It's a small school with a beautiful campus and it's easy to develop a tight-knit group of friends. It's a completely different atmosphere from any school I've visited and it's definitely worth a visit.
