My brother is at UT working on a great degree in logistics with multiple internship offers. Sewanee just can't offer those opportunities. Way to much drinking and social life built on that. What else is there to do in such a remote campus.
My advice to seniors in high school: If you care about your parents, don't ask them to spend all their money on Sewanee. My friends that went to UT and UTC spent so much less, don't have the student loans and have had more access and connections to job opportunities. Sewanee will tell you have a degree from there means something but I can assure you it is no more prestigious than a state school. Hey, great parties though!
I'll be transferring after one very long year. I can attend UT for 3 years and and pay for much of my graduate school for the price of one year at Sewanee. This is not the Sewanee my parents went to. It is wealthy kids or kids from lower income families but it does not make sense to attend here if your parents work for a living. If you have funding to go to travel abroad, take summers off, or take a few years off after college, this could be your choice.
