I am incredibly frustrated with the college system of education. I feel that the interworking of the Montana State University are inexcusable. As a student I felt more like a number. Trying to coordinate transfer credits and build a schedule that would satisfy the requirements is next to impossible. Winter term and summer term classes are posted late so there is no way to possibly predict what courses you may or may not be able to take. Furthermore, the degree checklist is not clear what so ever, some credits cover different requirements and some do not, there is a lot of fine print. Advisors are hit or miss I have had one that was great, the other also had trouble understanding the degree checklist resulting in an extended graduation dateline as well as an upset potential employer with a great career offer. Many of the professors seemed as though they could care less and seemed as though the were enthusiastic about giving students a second opportunity to retake classes. It seems the entire college system has failed us students. The education is overpriced and is more than likely not worth the effort inevitably. It is a tragic truth for in state students who would like to become college athletes because this school seems to only have concern for its football team and no other sports not to mention academics. I have basically waisted about 15,000 $ and got nothing from it. I would not recommend this institution for anyone at this point in time and passionately feel that someone along the chain of command there is getting very wealthy and ignoring the fact that this traditional system of education will not even begin to prepare students for the new world. So cheers to those individuals with unlimited funds sitting in their box office with political leaders who support coal while the rest of us are driven into the ground by a corrupt system that feels like nothing more than a huge SCAM! High school seemed more progressive than the University of Montana. I can't even begin to express my disgust for the school system as it is. Any out of state schools with contemporary undergraduate programs are too costly, the University I had acceptance too was asking for 50,000 for the first year of school. And another cheers to the economy while we bail out the banks that over charge us for everything our once great country seems to be eating its self apart with greed, feeding off of anyone and everyone. No wonder we are behind the curve. Our school would rather take our federal dollars and leave our students with nothing. We need new programs to compete and these traditional programs are forcing more students into the market that are competing for the same jobs as one another not to mention all the other students that graduate from the same program from every other year. Just reflect for a moment on how many sociologists are out there. Good luck Montana students, but I would study abroad and get an education where you KNOW you will have employment where you KNOW there is demand for work and where you KNOW they wont just try to weed you out. From my experience the majority of UofM professors would be much happier to see you fail than to promote success and a good education, that is just the way it is now. Pack as many students in to one room and get that federal money and who cares if they pass, realistically they don't even grade your work.
