Major: Physics (This Major's Salary over time)
In certain majors, students may not have the negative experience I did when coming here (education, architecture, and communications come to mind); however, if you plan on majoring in sciences, I advise you avoid Ball State if possible. Teachers skip concepts and proceed straight to formulae, often leaving the student wondering what natural process or system an equation models. Derivation of new formulae takes up hours of class time every week, but this derivation consists of a series of lines of mathematics and substitutions without any explanation. Don't take classes in cosmology or biology. You might have a fundamentalist instructor who uses the classroom as a forum for preaching creationism or intelligent design. Homework is useless and time-consuming. Tests are easy - which often is a negative. You will rarely see a curve. I have nothing but praise for the mathematics department, however - a pleasant surprise at a third-tier institution.Muncie is incredibly boring. There are intellectual students here, but they are hard to find and often keep to themselves.
