DO NOT GO TO FIU. The school is terrible and it is not the most prestigious university to attend. It is a 4th tier university. FIU has also been struggling with some budget problems for some time now and we have a lot of dishonest students on campus. If you leave your laptop or cell phone unattended for more than 20 seconds it will get stolen. FIU?s campus is not safe particularly the south campus because it is located in the middle of a bad neighborhood. In fact a student was stabbed to death on campus by a fellow student about a month ago. But this doesn?t come as much of a shock seeing how Miami has the 3rd highest crime rate in the country. If I knew then what I know now about FIU I would have never attended that school. The professors don?t care about any one, the students are petty thieves and there is never any parking on campus. Parents your children can do much better trust me. Send your child to FSU, UF or FAMU so they can graduate with a diploma from a prestigious school and they will be attractive to both employers and graduate schools.

responseWho the fuck cares if this school isnt prestigious or in the 4th tier?? all those schools you listed are terribly overrated…
responseLol you're probably just upset that no one spoke to you on your first day. don't blame my school!
commentFIU is a joke. The two idiots that responded to this are just upset because they were probably rejected from every other school except the desperate FIU.
responseTo the pathetic bitch who responded, umm no one wasn't talking to you, so fall back! if you think FIU is a joke, then why come there, dumbass? oh, i never did apply to those schools the poster listed because they really are overrated and not worth my time, sorry. fact.

commentThis is exactly why I'm glad I don't go here. Too much chusmeria.
responseSooo if it was so terrible why didnt you transfer.. smh

You should have done your research first smarty

And why would you call FAMU a prestigious university lmao youre a joke get out of here.. If you would of said UCF… even Broward College I would agree
commentThe poster is absolutely correct. FIU is a total Bull***t institution. If you are a retard or international student, then you will blend right in a have a great time. If you have are honest, independent, and have common sense then the people at that school will drive you mental. Everyone there is so low class. The entire campus is dominated by international students, especially engineering. The bottom line is this, where the **** do FIU graduates end up? The school is full of people from other countries who have fake credentials.

NOTE To AMERICANS: Stay the F**k away!

responseEverything you said was spot on except the part where it's located in a bad neighborhood. Actually, the neighborhood that FIU is located in is not a bad neighborhood at all. However, north of that neighborhood, you have sweetwater, which is where the crime concentrates. I can attest to the reputation of the neighborhood, as I've lived in the area my entire life (21 years) and we've left keys outside and doors open. Nothing's ever happened. Also, FAMU is not really a great school at all. I happen to go to FSU and FAMU's located in a really BAD neighborhood. Seriously, if you think FIU's neighborhood is bad it's because you just haven't been to Tallahassee in general.
responseA very bad experience all around. The administration is horrible. Financial aid has no idea what they are doing. Plus no one speaks English! Glad we got out when we did!
Perhaps it is a bad experience for undergraduate school, but depending on the programs you desire, it is pretty standard as a graduate institution. Poor undergraduates, I'd say. I used to be a PhD student in chemistry at FSU, and the department there is pretty bad. The city is a shithole for the most part (lived there for 1.5 years) and the college town apartments are overpriced (especially the studios). Studios for >$500 in North Florida? Give me a break. I taught labs and assisted lectures at FSU, and the undergraduates are just as dumb there as they are at FIU. If you seek less dumb students, you're better off at a private institution. As for where the students go when they graduate. Try law firms, business firms, and laboratories. This is South Florida. Most normal people begin their job seeking locally, as it is cost efficient. I bet more of your North Florida graduates come to S. Florida than than the other way around. Local recruiters love alumni, as they themselves may be. There are over 100,000 alumni from both UM and FIU in Miami. If you want to be in Miami in general, it's either FIU or UM. There are more internship opportunities than you can shake a stick at here. So please tout your FSU/UF experience all you want. I've been a student at FSU and my brother has been a UF student. Guess what. Both of us graduate at the top of our class and we both left those schools because the respective programs we were in were shit, and the schools left things to be desired. Nothing's perfect, and you're going to have to deal with some shortcomings. Did I mention I was mugged in the middle of the FSU campus? I can show you the crime report emails; they get about 2 muggings per month. Thanks FAMU. It's your choice and your program in the end. I'm a forensic science student now. We have 100% employment leaving out program, just thought I'd throw that out there. Lastly, this is Miami. The city is absolutely amazing. If you want more than just an academic experience, trust me the city's offerings make up for the shortcomings. If you want NCAA footballs teams and crowded college bars, stay in North Florida.
responseFIU feels like an South American university not an American Unversity. It's amazing to me that laptops disappear instantly on campus, people have an hour long phone conversations at quiet study areas, and nobody has any any manners. Students are disinterested and lazy. Staff doesn't speak English. Professors are mostly Latin, so are the students, and they do prefer to communicate in Spanish.

Campus is nice and relatively well kept. The area outside the campus is ghetto and there is literally nothing for college students.

I was there only for 4 weeks as a guest. FIU may one day become a really good university but not within the next 100 years. The whole International University theme is not working. They have to be much more selective in their admissions and make the school harder to weed out ignorant kids. Most employers are interested in well rounded, smart, and hard working students who were able to SURVIVE very difficult schools.

I am sure there are brilliant kids among these ignorant monkeys at FIU. So, if you are one of those students transfer to an Ivy school before it's too late…

responseI don't get it? This blog is to rate the quality of education at FIU and yet there are individuals up here that are commenting on things that are irrelevant and obviously racist. Monkies? I have to guess that you are white. It is very offensive for you to refer to Hispanic or black people as monkies. I hope you guys grow up and stop making yourself look bad. Can someone please tell me about the quality of their MBA program and not all the extra. Thanks!
responseIn response to the person above me asking about the MBA… While I don't know much about the MBA program, I did attend FIU from 2002-2005 for my bachelor's degree. I was top of my class in a very selective high school and did not have an issue with the academics at FIU. I never had anything stolen or had a problem with any student or faculty member (plus I'm sure things can be stolen anywhere as people are people regardless of what college they are attending). All my classes were taught in English regardless of the students' or professors' country of origin. It is a commuter school so you are not going to get that whole "college experience" you would get at a school like UF or FSU where mostly everyone lives in dorms. But some people say that is a good thing as it keeps them more focused on school and less on the parties and social life. Student's from UM would come to FIU to take cheaper classes and complain that the classes were too hard. (Several people from my highschool were attending UM while I was at FIU, I did not care for the snobbish attitude of the student's at UM, and students who graduated at the bottom of my class were somehow able to get a bachelor's degree at UM in 3 years. I attended FAU for my master's degree and was not impressed. If you want better information on any college I would go to the U.S. News website and research the program you want there. It is much more helpful than the petty arguments going on on this site.
commentI think whats going on here is a racist debate on FIU.I have been reading other reviews on UF and FSU and let me tell you, There is the same type of racist remarks for those schools. for example: " " To many Rednecks at UF" "White people rule at FSU" and now "to many Hispanics at FIU". Don't you guys see the pattern here? its a race issue not an University issue. As long as ignorant people continue to play this race card, things will never change here in the U.S.
responseNo, it's not a race issue. You see, blacks/ south americans in general = lower standard education. When you get to many minorities in one school, education level is decreased because "minorities" tend to be lazier and want everything on a silver platter. Everything has to be made easier or else you'll get a bunch of failing students. Sooooo, what does FIU do to solve that problem? Hire sub-par profs to teach sub- par students. This isn't rocket science people!

Oh and I went to FIU and have never been more disgusted in my life as to how RUDE/IGNORANT AND DISRESPECTFUL people (or should I say MONKEYS) are! Go figure! These students parents were like non-existent when they were young. Their mothers were to busy jumping from one man to the next and their fathers probably picked up and left the second they found out their wives were pregnant= rude/ignorant disrespectful monkeys!

questionIt's spelled, MONKEYS, you MONKEYS!!!
responseThis message goes out to any and all negative comments, wow such dogma and yet I find it ironic that there is talk about minorities. There is a reason why it's called Florida (International) University, and In my opinion I think FIU is one of the top schools in the country. "The surrounding of FIU is dangerous"? Seriously, I currently live in Opa Locka which has one of the highest crime rate than any other city in the country… In other words South Kendall which is the area around FIU is safe, and Sweetwater would be considered the suburbs. In addition, ha!!! The comment regarding minorities as lazy is incredulous, and most feeble attempt to boost self esteem when your already trailer trash. Though your obvious stupidly is not entirely your fault it's your parents. Hey keeping it in the family, is kind of weird so your uncle may actually be your father? I'm sorry to hear that inbreeding is very rampant among your family, but grow up and move out of your mama's trailer. Get yourself a job like a regular adult and start paying taxes. Education is what you make of it, instead of lamenting over your troubles get a girlfriend…By the way I am of African descent, currently own a company and getting ready to start three others. What do you do? I am a proud FIU student, and a self made IT Consultant!
commentFIU is an unmitigated - UNMITIGATED - disaster. The faculty in many departments is just atrocious and the median FIU student doesn't belong in college. Most CC's are better.

Also, what is with the goddamned bathrooms at FIU? How hard is it to hit the toilet?

So many people on this site seem to make comments with little evidence for their claims. Shame on you for all of your stupidity.
