UH is a great school. Sure, it does have it's drawbacks but it is what you make it. Social life is what you make it for the most part; many do just keep to themselves, but if people would say "hi" or "how are you?" they would not ignore the other people, you've got to initiate conversation to receive it. All of the people I've met are from my initiating conversation, don't know if keeping to myself would have done the same. Academically speaking, UH is average, I came from an average to high average school & feel that a lot/most of my classes are the same as my high school classes except these have 10 page papers. Faculty have never been rude to me or non caring, EVEry single one i've come across gave me a generally positive attitude. The third ward is a bad place for a University to be located, but I've lived here my entire life & can say that I walk around with confidence.. You've just got to know where you are, watch your back (literally), and once you do the confidence won't fade. All this is outside the campus in the 3rd ward, while IN campus there is no need to worry, just like I said, know where you are and the people around you & project confidence. Beginning of my 3rd year in my 4 year plan, and UH has been nothing but positive, ok maybe the parking and the food are the only bad things I can think of, and there are some arrogant people, but they are a minority; Most want their education & they are getting it, with jobs or other things on top of that, so being busy and being for self are two different things. I'd give this school a 3.5/5.
