Nice review..people who are prone to criticizing are in truth looking for some sort of generalization they can persuade other people into believing when in reality it's a roundabout way of legitimizing one's own disimissive attitude about school and life in general. I used to do that a lot until I realized in my thirties how futile it was |
Thanks for your review. For once I have some positive insight on the school instead of all the negativity. |
Positive insight??????at FIU??? nooooo. |
Major: Psychology (This Major's Salary over time)
I was going to wait until after i graduate to write this review because i think it would make me sound more legit, since i am actually at the point of reflecting and not commenting based on being emotionally distraught or exuberant at the moment. However, i decided it would be a good time since i only have a semester left and i wanted to share my experiences while theyre still fresh in my memory. although, i will mention a few negative remarks that i've stumbled upon, i'm going to still give this a positive rating—and you'll see why in a bit.Now i transferred from a private university in the worst city you could ever imagine. So not only was i paying overrated amounts of fees for my classes but i was breaking bank to stay in a city where the aesthetics and the people of the town were so depressing that the university looked like it was from another world. Okay, i see a lot of complaints from students saying that there are "hidden fees" and "oh my so many fees"—trying paying 30,000 a year for a school that is not funded by the government, who could choose to do whatever they want with your money—like building a church on campus for no apparent reason. FIU on the other hand at least uses your money for more parking garages and more activities to add to a better campus experience. Ive seen less complaints about parking at FIU and you can thank the "hidden fees" for that one, which are not hidden if people used the resources and actually looked at their financial aid reports months before they realize the school is asking for money when classes start, then they would have nothing to complain about. The financial aid administrators can be very rude but working in that office can be very frustrating so i always try to do a lot of research about my financial aid options and ask the most appropriate questions like, "when can i expect my funds to be posted"—but FIU financial aid has an awesome way of making pre-recorded messages of deadlines and expectations and have most common questions answered while you call them so you do not waste your time waiting , which was helpful for me more than once. Then again, FIU is in miami. what more could you want? we're not talking about little clubs that every person from your english class will go to, but im talking about real night life, real fancy and exotic taste in partying in miami, because the city (unlike other college towns) are not advertised only around the students but for also can be for a more older crowd. Aside from that, miami has some really nice shops that allow you to spend little. Of course, you have to have a car to get to some of these places but unlike other colleges like UF, FIU does not make up what miami is and neither does the population at FIU, and thats really exciting, dont you think? Also, academically speaking the school does have some arrogant professors I am not going to lie and some of the classes are tough. One student complained of having a bad professor for statistics—but i need to clear this up: statistics can be just as demanding and time consuming as calculus, because like any math course you have to practice and practice. Plus, if any class are a real difficulty for you, FIU provides and advertises heavily free campus tutoring for all overbearing classes in any major. You cannot expect a professor to hold your hand all the way through college, but you can expect them to teach you what is required for you to say and not get extreme amounts of busy work. Overall, I love FIU. ive seen the dark side of other universities and FIU is just perfect for me. I regret not choosing FIU to start my freshman year and having put myself in a lot of debt (please refrain from going to any private school), because i love it here and how cheap the tuition is. now and i feel proud to tell people that I am a panther and always will be.
