I see a lot of the positive comments on here criticizing people who give GV a low rating on social life saying that they never go out or shouldn't have partying and socializing on their mind. That's completely ridiculous because half the reason I would think anyone goes to college is to experience a an independent life where they can meet new people and have fun with them; and yes, partying is a BIG part of hanging out and having fun at college. I went their and got into trouble the first year and let me tell you, the RA's and especially the cops DO NOT mess around. And it doesn't have to be drinking or doing drugs or whatever. I had to have a personal meeting with the head of the GVSU police for having a pillow fight. I'm dead serious. These guys obviously have too much time on their hands and too much ideas of being a super cop pumped into their egotistical minds. And why are the campus police and Ottawa sheriffs so militarized? They dress and act like they are SWAT it's completely unnecessary and stupid taking into account GVSU has one of the lowest crime rates of any college in the US. The people who go here really are snotty stuck up pricks (well, not all of them just most). Nearly all of them are very wealthy which isn't a bad thing but they act like they are better than anyone who's parents income isn't over 150,000 dollars a year. The campus is not involved in anything serious or worthwhile. When many colleges are protesting real issues GVSU students are completely oblivious. The right-wing evangelical christian overtone of this school is rampant. The surrounding area is the same way and you feel like they try to push their own views of "morals" onto you. The faculty are nice and I have had some really awesome teachers, but for the most part you feel the just don't care about making learning interesting. More than a few I seriously though should be HS or grammar school teachers it's that bad and that's the overall experience I received: This feels like CC or high school, definitely not college. There is no school tradition, the administration treats you like dirt, the sporting events are extremely disappointing. When you live in a dorm and notice that 75% of the building is empty on the because the students left to go home or to another college, you start doubting your choice in higher education. The thing I regret most is not leaving earlier.
