Hi! I'm actually debating between going to Cal with regents or to Yale. I want to go into engineering. I loved the environment at Cal when I went to visit (I'm a first-gen, low-income asian student; there's not a lot of us at Yale) but I also love the close prof-student relationships one can foster at Yale. I don't want to have regrets down the road. Any advice? |
Major: Public Health (This Major's Salary over time)
Came here from Yale, and really don't see much difference in the quality of student. If anything, students here are as brilliant but more humble. In fact, many PhD students here seem to have come from ivies or a similar ilk (Williams, Amherst, Middlebury, Stanford, etc.)—perhaps the Berkeley ethos attracts their humbler, friendlier students. But this is just what I've gathered from my personal experiences at the different schools. My favorite thing about Berkeley is that its student body seems united through an overarching desire to affect change. Whether its broad social change, or specific advancement in an area of technological expertise, folks here like to lead their fields' progress. This environment provides a strong sense of purpose and confidence. I find myself in awe of my peers on a daily basis. And the best part truly is the Average Joe, down-to-earth air that seems to permeate the campus. It's for this reason that I chose Berkeley over Harvard, Columbia, etc., and it's for that reason that I'd certainly do it again.
