Major: PreMed and Medical (This Major's Salary over time)
OK, So I researched Coastal before I came here 5 semesters ago to get my second undergraduate degree(My first is in history)and am a older at 26 than most of the students in my classes. I came here to work on a pre-med Biology BS, (I have family in SC and wanted to stay in-state at MUSC.) but with the new Biochem degree decided to go that route just in case I don't get into med-school. I only took the bare minimum science and math classes during my first degree so had to start over from scratch on those. (I cleped out of alot of other 100-level classes. Check into those Clep tests it'll save you time and money!) Try and get a gen chem or organic class at ccu, it's almost impossible. And watch what professor you get when you do! My gen chem prof had never taught a single class in his life (he worked in industry for something like 20 years)and would admit in class that he didn't know how to do some of the problems from the powerpoints and those he assigned from the book. To be fair, he took over for a prof that left after a few weeks into the class. One of FIVE chem profs that quit that summer. There are only like 10 profs in the whole department! Then a semester or two later in my O-chem lab, this woman, who I later learned is the lab manager (orders chemicals and sets up the lab, not a faculty member), starts yelling at our prof right there in the lab. That happened twice that semester. Our Prof even apologized to us in class because of it. Never seen that in any of my classes at any school before. Just plain unprofessional. This summer I emailed my old gen chem lab prof to ask about who to take in the fall and he wasn't with ccu any longer. He and THREE other profs left over the summer. That's eight folks over the year. I'm not sure what's going on with the Chemistry Dept at ccu, but I'm considering changing back to pre-med biology or I may even drive to COC in Charleston. I can't afford to have this look bad on me when I apply to med school.
