Major: Business - Management and Administration (This Major's Salary over time)
This is my first semester at UNT and my last chance at college. First of all I have a complaint against Financial aid for being inflexible in their calculations of "attempted" hours. I took a bunch of remedial math courses at a junior college (12 hours worth) and UNT counted these hours AGAINST me, even though I earned 0 credit, for financial aid purposes. Throughout the BS I ended up with 144 "attempted" college hours, even with withdrawls and drops (I dropped a semester's worth of classes when my wife was sick). THEN I did advisement as a transfer student with the College of Business…I sat down with an advisor at Transfer Orientation after planning out my degree plan, showed them which classes I needed to take and when, and asked for a waiver to take a course that was a prereq for all my others…NO was what I received. When I asked if there was any way the guy snootily said "No, your UNT GPA is 0 so you can't register". Evidently when you transfer to UNT you have your transfer AND UNT GPA's and UNT GPA is what they use to calculate EVERYTHING. So I find myself in the spot of having to have a 2.7 GPA just to continue in my degree plan this semester! Other than those gripes with the Transfering Process the teachers are approachable and eager to answer questions, classes are a bit large but if you jump on your work early and ask questions you WILL stand out and your teachers will help. I found the social life on campus lacking but that may be that half the clubs schedule meetings from 5-6:30PM and CoB some upper-level CoB classes are ONLY offered at that time. Dorms could be cheaper but then again parking permits could be a LOT cheaper and they could do a better job at build garages instead of making people walk a mile just to find a parking space. I would give UNT overall a C and say that if you CAN live on campus do so and if you start at a junior college then use the Course Transfer System on UNT's site to make sure your courses transfer (if you are a Business Student take ALL of your Business core at a Junior college and transfer it, make B's if you can to avoid the UNT GPA BS). I'll review again after my first year but all in all I see UNT as looking good for the next 3 years (5 if I do Graduate work).
