Having attended the University of Florida (like my older sister) for both my undergraduate and graduate degree I can honestly say that there is no place I would have rather gone (3 National Championships didn't hurt either). A common misconception about UF, at least here in the north, is that it is a party school on the beach like U of Miami. It is not… there are farms and lots of them, but the entire city of Gainesville is Gator crazy and really makes you feel like part of something bigger than yourself. Though the school is huuuuuuge it can be a great place to go if you make it smaller for yourself by joining any of the myriad of social groups such as fraternities / sororities , political groups, or intramural sports teams etc. Also, though a lot of classes have a large amount of students in them most professors are easily accessible if you try. However, one drawback is that some professors, though brilliant, are not necessarily as proficient in English as I would have liked. Be sure to scout things out first, Florida is a major melting pot. One of the great benefits of UF being so huge is that every Saturday in the fall is a grand event with you and 90,000 other fans. As an out of state student (from the North) the price was great and so was the change in weather. Academic rigor depends on what you major in, and there are TONS of options… the choice is yours.
