I was accepted to well-respected colleges - Williams, Dartmouth, Cornell, Tufts, UVA - but Colgate felt most comfortable. I don't mind that it is not an Ivy school, that it is often viewed as a safety school, or that my friends tease me relentlessly about it being named after the toothpaste company. It has a good mix of good classes and fun sports, and though the village is small and remote, the social scene is decent, but admittedly not great. Colgate is not a perfect place. Students here do have money, and Colgate does have that country club flavor - but so do hundreds of other private colleges so those aspects just take getting used to. Everyone here is overwhelmingly helpful and the transition from high school was easy.
