Major: Economics (This Major's Salary over time)
I just graduated from Colgate and wished admissions had been more forthcoming. The picture they paint of the school is the atmosphere the administration wishes existed, rather than reality. Colgate is not as diverse as they make it seem and there really is little else to do in the town other than drink. Greek life is an incredibly large aspect of the social scene, but the administration refuses to add a multicultural Greek house. I have wondered more than once if the obsession about overstating diversity is more than just a ploy to improve rankings. As an aside, I just noticed all of the positive rankings in the last two months. They don't mention any of Colgate's true flaws, the ones that exist below the surface. The posts below me are also just so much more frequent than the average span between posts on this site, (5 in a month vs 1 every 2 months) that it raised some flags in my mind. I wouldn't be surprised if they are faux posts and admissions counselors are posing as students. Colgate seems to push an agenda and those at the top but don't mind the students who hate their experience at Colgate as this vision goes through its growing pains. I feel like a casualty as Colgate paints a fictitious portrait of campus in the hopes that it will one day it will turn into reality. I guess I fell for the pretty picture and should have done better research. Some students seemed to LOVE their time at Colgate, and I am truly jealous of them. These students typically fit the "mold"- white, party, drink, wealthy, and study just hard enough- but those of us on the outside margins can only sit back and marvel with pangs of jealousy.
