This is a school that is trying toMath
This is a school that is trying to get rid of its reputation
as a commuter school. Because of this I only recommend going to NYU if you come in with a near-perfect H.S. GPA and a very high SAT score. The students for the most part are shallow and snooty. Certain parts of the 'campus' are nice and recently renovated, especially the new dorm rooms, but many classrooms are run-down, and the overall facilities

are below average. Unless you are a student that they feelwill bring them 'prestige', such as by winning an academic competition or are a student that is demographically interesting, the school merely views you as a source of revenue. If you want to go to a school with a good reputation, I suggest thay you go to Columbia or Cooper Union, it is free! The employment support services for Alumni are sparce, and the services that they do provide are not very helpful and they charge a lot of money for them. For a few hundred dollars, they will put your resume on a web-site! WOW. Even though academically, NYU is quite rigorous, in private industry most hiring managers are not really impressed by NYU because hiring managers have their traditional view of NYU as a St. John's for the spoiled, or a wanna-be Columbia.

College formed my professional life, attitudes, opinions, anMusic Education
College formed my professional life, attitudes, opinions, and most especially, my thirst to continue to learn. Being a student in NYC was a dream come true for me.There was no end to what I could do, learn, experience with Manhattan and the resources of NYU at my doorstep. NYU was the center of the universe as far as I was concerned. I became the New Yorker I longed to be, and that has stayed with me all these years, even though I do not live in "the city" anymore. I feel honored that I have been able to return to teach there, albeit part time. The students I meet are vibrant, well spoken, well written, enthusiastic, creative and compassionate. I get chills when I walk back into those old, sometimes dilapidated hallways, and think of my wonderful time there and the history of learning that those halls contain from way before my time. If you like New York, and can handle life there, NYU has everything.

Question
When I came to NYU I was notSuper BrilliantEconomics
When I came to NYU I was not expecting a traditional "college experience", but I was expecting to have a social life. The students here are unapproachable and most are unfriendly. There is no social community whatsoever, because the security is ridiculously tight. For example, even though I'm an NYU student living in on-campus housing, I can't get into another dorm without a resident of that dorm to vouch for me. It seems to me that NYU's policies discourage socializing and encourage clique-forming. Add to that the fact that there is no "campus" or even a common room, quad, or community building, and you have all the makings of a depressing experience.
