Positive Negative Neutral Advice
I must admit, Binghamton U.Quite BrightEconomics
I must admit, Binghamton U. was at the very bottom of my list of schools. But after languishing on several waiting lists for the Ivy Leaguers, I had no choice. I guess for the low tuition, Bing is a good university, but one can't help but feel that there is much to be desired. The town is a little depressing, the campus is ugly, and some professors are not very helpful. The student body also lacks school spirit, and is very apathetic for the most part. The overbearing cliquishness can be alienating sometimes. For example, I am from Upstate New York, which apparently is the epitome of un-coolness according to the hordes of Long Islanders and NYC natives, which make up most of the student body (so much for diversity). For all the negatives though, there are some good things about Binghamton. It's good for the financially strapped, and it does have some really good programs, such as environmental science and nursing. However, I am thankful that I have a guaranteed transfer to Cornell next year, because Binghamton is really not the environment for me.

Question
Suny Binghamton was a great experience for me.PreLaw and Legal
Suny Binghamton was a great experience for me. I think if you go in with an open mind and are willing to go through new experiences and not compare the tiny details, you will be very happy here. I was accepted to other more expensive private schools like Cornell, Brandeis, Univ of Rochester and hands down selected Binghamton because of the price, location and its reputation as the best state school in New York. I had classes with students were extremely motivated and bright - many which did not want to "coast" on just the reputation of the school (as many of my high school friends who went to Cornell and expected things to be handed to them on a silver platter). Given how cheap SUNY was, I was able to afford a semester study abroad program where I went to Paris and really honed my French language skills. I felt that Binghamton prepared me very well for life (meeting different people, making new friends, networking) and for law school (some college courses were very similar to what I faced in law school and I did not feel overwhelmed).

If you know what you want, Binghamton has everything it can offer, and if it doesn't - you can certainly find the resources to develop those interests. My Binghamton contacts really help me to this day, in the work force, socially and across the NY metro region where the school has a very solid reputation.

Question
Binghamton has been a big mistake for me.Quite BrightUndecided
Binghamton has been a big mistake for me. The town is horrible, the people are competitive in a bad way, the campus is ugly, the weather is depressing, food is gross, and the school just doesn't care about you at all. The library, food court, bookstore, etc are all closed whenever you need them to be open. The school lacks school spirit. Social scene? Lets see there are frat parties off campus in a supposed "house" but its really a run down apartment building like place. Yeah there are a few bars downtown. What is good about the school? Its cheap and you get a descent education. However, I find it hilarious when people say it is the "Ivy of SUNYs." What the heck does that mean anyways? It's still a SUNY school and nobody outside of LI, parts of upstate even knows the school. Don't get me wrong, a lot of the people who go here absolutely love it because it was what they were looking for. For me? Absolutely not, and I am getting out of here soon. Sorry if I come across so negative for anyone thinking of attending, but I am just one person and you shouldn't go by my words only anyways.
