The College of William and Mary

William and Mary has both positives and negatives. I would advise that all students find a niche for themselves whether it is Greek, club, or concentration oriented. Overall, I have to say my educational experience was excellent and I met professors at W&M who took a real interest in my educational and personal goals. The student body can be found lacking though, especially in diversity. Though it has the reputation as one of the most liberal schools in VA, I found it to be more right of center. As an out of state student, I found that some in-state students had a sense of entitlement that wasn't always deserved. However, I suppose this would be an problem at any well renowned school.

Alumnus Male -- Class 2000

W&M is an amazing place to get an education. Students who come here are often overachievers and always hard workers, but it is certainly not a school full of nerds. The students here really like to get involved in extracurricular activities such as community service,sports and recreation, and sororities/frats. Its definetly not a big party school, but there is always fun stuff to do. Also, its awesome living so close to colonial Williamsburg and Busch Gardens!

1st Year Female -- Class 2012

Useful Schoolwork: A+, Scholastic Success: B+

William and Mary provides a superior education; a student can expect rigorous coursework with engaging requirements beyond sitting in 500 person classes and handing in anonymous assignments, but from this work, the student will learn to write well, read and do independent work, make sound and convincing arguments, and will learn how to learn -- not just learn how to beat a test.

The social life is not what one would expect from a school in urban NY, but the campus community yields many opportunities for fun. Frat parties do get old, but hanging out at coffee shops listening to live music, wandering around the beautiful campus, many academic activities, recsports, and trips out of the Burg do provide some opportunity for fun. Admittedly, to most students this takes a back seat to their studies, so be warned ... however, most W&M students are friendly and interesting people, even if they can be uberserious about school.W&M is a good experience; a great value for in-state students, and a quality education in a very small and personal setting. It isn't for everyone, but no school is.
