Art Education Degree

As an educator of the arts you will be teaching students art history, art theory, visual arts, ceramics, digital art, design and other areas of art. Positions as educators in arts are available at all grade levels.

At a minimum you will need a bachelors degree in art education, in some instances you will need a masters degree. Some states require art educators to be certified. Check with the state you reside or are looking to teach in to see that states requirements to teach art education.

Theory of Art

At the broadest level, a theory of art aims to shed light on some aspect of the project of defining art or to theorize about the structure of our concept of ‘art’ without providing classical definitions, namely definitions formulated in terms of “necessary and sufficient” conditions.

Visual Art Education

Visual arts education is the area of learning that is based upon only what one can see, visual arts—drawing, painting, sculpture, and design in jewelry, pottery, weaving, fabrics, etc. and design applied to more practical fields such as commercial graphics and home furnishings. Contemporary topics include photography, video, film, design, computer art, etc.

Digital Art

Digital art is an artistic work or practice that uses digital technology as an essential part of the creative or presentation process. Since the 1970s, various names have been used to describe the process including computer art and multimedia art, and digital art is itself placed under the larger umbrella term new media art.[1][2]

Ceramics

In art history, ceramics and ceramic art mean art objects such as figures, tiles, and tableware made from clay and other raw materials by the process of pottery. Some ceramic products are regarded as fine art, while others are regarded as decorative, industrial or applied art objects, or as artifacts in archaeology. They may be made by one individual or in a factory where a group of people design, make and decorate the ware. Decorative ceramics are sometimes called "art pottery".[1]
