Contrary to what some people say, there is a lot to do here. Besides the huge bar scene, there are a lot of student groups on campus that put on shows/events all the time. The frats and sororities are just one aspect of UIUC. The Urbana side (well away from the greeks) provides a more laid-back, open-minded, and culturally diverse atmosphere.

Academically, my Liberal Arts classes are not very challenging. The classes in my major, however, are quite hard, but still interesting. Some people may feel the teachers are distant, but you just have to make the initial effort yourself to meet them, and usually they are very willing to help. If you are interested in engineering, I highly recommend going here. (#3 ranked school)
