Although many of my fellow commenters opinions are true (the weather sucks, social life is iffy), I would like to add that it's very important to remember that social activities are not going to just come to you. The weather is cold and snowy, and it makes it hard to go outside, but honestly, wear a jacket, and try to ignore the grayness and you'll be fine. I think you have to avoid the temptation to stay in your nice warm dorm room. Rochester itself is not nearly as bad of a town as you might think. There's lots of neat little shops and restaurants, but you have to go out and find them. Education - I can't complain. There's a lot of work, and you need to set aside time to do it, but there's plenty of time for relaxation too. People are extraordinarily friendly (at least it seemed to me, coming from LI) and it's easy to make friends as long as you put the effort out there. To sum up the theme - you'll have a great time at UR, but it's only as great as you make it.
