Having spent only a semester at SWT/TSU, which was about a year ago, I am not the most informed person when it comes to what the school offers. However, I will try my best give you my honest assessment of the quality of this institution. The department I was in has an excellent reputation, and my limited experience leads me to agree for the most part. A lot of the students are very apathetic about grades, politics, or basically anything that doesn't directly lead to getting wasted. I found the students to be a homogenous bunch, perpetuating the small-town hick sterotype. San Marcos is painfully boring, but the campus is very nice. Yes, Austin is 30 minutes away and San Antonio (my hometown) is about 40-50 minutes away. However, I don't much care for having to travel that far for a little excitement, some culture, and a break from San Marcos monotony. One of my best friends still goes there and she really likes it, so these negative opinions of the school are obviously are not held by everyone. The school simply wasn't satisfying enough, challenging enough (except for my history class), or worth my time. I found few people that I identified with and that had the same interests as me. But if you like shopping at the outlet malls, drinking yourself into a stupor, and not hitting the books too hard, SWT/TSU might just be the place for you. Good luck!
