I was thoroughly looking forward to going to college and meeting a bunch of like-mminded individuals to become friends with, as well as learning valuable information to put to use throughout my life. Although I do enjoy going to my classes, sometimes it seems they are the only good thing about the university. Frankly, the university lies to you at campus visits when they say there is plenty to do on campus besides drink alcohol. They may sponsor activities, but no one shows up. When a comedian comes to campus, they are lucky if 30 students show up. That's 30 out of 20,000 undergraduates! Everyone is a conformist to the alcohol culture at the University. I tried joining the ski/snowboard club as well as the cycling club on campus, but at the first meeting they made it clear the real reason they gathered was to get wasted. While there may be students on campus who also choose not to drink, you will be hard pressed to find them because no activities seem to bring them together. I have been very dissappointed at the University of Iowa and will definitely be leaving after my freshman year.
