Many people talk about how dreary the University of Rochester is, but in reality, the campus is quite beautiful, and you should visit to see it for yourself. The architecture is fairly unique among college campuses in that the buildings all complement each other (there's a lot of brick and ivy), and we don't have any monstrous concrete cubes from the 70s that make the campus uglier. The weather in Rochester is very cold in the winter and it snows a lot, so be aware of that. But at the same time, many people enjoy that, including me. If I had to choose between staying in Rochester with its snow or going to school in the south where it never snows, I would stay here and never look back.

Academically, the University of Rochester gives you just about everything you might want. It's not quite as prestigious as the Ivies, but it's not far off either. In many ways, you can get a better education here than at other more prestigious schools because the faculty is actually interested in teaching undergraduates, and not just in their own research.

The social scene is what you make of it. If you're looking for a huge party school, then this isn't the place for you. But, if you're looking for a place where you can form your own social life without being pressured to go to the fraternities every night, then you should consider coming here. Although the U of R isn't part of a college town, there is quite a bit to do in Rochester, and the city is full of culture. I honestly feel that coming to the University of Rochester is one of the best things I've ever done.
