Indiana University - Bloomington

IU is a large school, but because of the many ECAs, you can find your nitch here. Although your dorm room floor affects your friend-selection greatly, I suppose that could be said of most big universities.

What I adore about IU is that although it isn't as tough as Harvard or Cornell etc., it still had a high name-rec. and challenging courses. Gender Studies is definitely worth checking out and the English department has changed me from novice writer to aspiring author.

Despite what others might say, I love Bloomington. There isn't a lot of stuff to do, but what is here is fun - aka bowling, a nice small-town downtown, blah blah.

But, a word of caution: IU is 100% Big Ten so if you aren't into school spirit - and some partying - you will probably have trouble be accepted and having fun. Although there are some wholsome traditions here, be prepared for overwhelming Greek life and beer. I guess that could be said of any Big Ten school, but… However, the police are very proactive about keeping the out-of-control in line.

I reccomend IU to those kids who want a real college experience full of social life and new knowledge. It isn't perfect, but no school is. Lastly, the town is incredibly liberal with an active Flower-Children-GreenPeace-enviro. cult so beware you Republicans.
