Major: English (This Major's Salary over time)
I am a freshman english major at UF and I hate it here. For one, the university doesn't even know you exist. As cliche as it sounds, you are simply a number. The university barely fosters individuality; to them, you are just another miniscule addition to their great GATOR NATION! As an english major, I have found it very difficult to get into critical english tracking courses. When I went to register this and last semester, all of the 3000 level english courses were take up. Don't you think it's a bit important to actually be in an english class to see if you like the major and want to continue with it? that's what i thought. so i went to advisors several times and they simply told me to stalk ISIS (our online registration tool) during drop-add week. that really helped- NOT.Furthermore, the university barely supports the arts. They could care less about the humanities and basically want to rid the university of any if it doesn't bring in a national championship, why even bother? this is school where Med, Engineering, and Business is put on a pedistal. English on the other hand receives yearly budget cuts and drops important courses. For those that don't think greek life is for you, DON'T COME HERE!!! The campus is dominated by frats and sororities. I don't drink so I find it very difficult to find fun and interesting people to hang out with. And Gainesville is possibly one of the most boring places ever. If you don't have a car and you live on campus, you are basically stuck at UF. Long story short, I knew that I wanted to go to a small liberal arts school for college. But because of money issues, I had to come here. My advice: IF YOU HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO GO TO A SMALLER SCHOOL WHERE THEY WILL PAY ATTENTION TO YOU—GO!!! JUST TAKE A LOAN IF YOU HAVE TO, IT IS WORTH IT!!! i wish i had done that.
