UConn has its ups and downs, but I think I made a great decision when going into the business program. Apply directly from high school! It is difficult to get in once at the University. I'm pleased with the reputation that the school has and I'll have enough money left over for an MBA, not possible if I had gone to an expensive private school. As far as the social scene, you'll find your niche. With 15000 students, theres something for everybody. I have to say that the party scene was a big turn off, its like its all there is to do and so I found this very irritating at my time here. This is due to the location in a rural area so it completely makes sense. I probably would not be and transferred if the academic reputation of the Business school was so outstanding for such a bargain. There are also other excellent programs that are viewed as among the best in the country. I made my comment neutral because the experience is what you make of it, your experience could be great or terrible depending on decisions you make throughout your time here.
