I am a freshman at CU and while I love Colorado and enjoyed growing up in Boulder, I'm having a horrible time at the university.  While the classes are challenging, you can get good grades if you put enough effect into them.  But it is the social life of CU that I can't stand.  It seems like most kids just want to talk about the drugs they did or how drunk they got at some party and it is difficult to make friends who want to do things other than party.  I work part time in order to pay for a portion of my tuition and save up for a place to live next year, so my social life is practically nonexistent.  Apartments and tuition are so expensive so I have to work four to five days a week.  I am one of three other people that I know who work because everyone else's parents pay for everything for them.  This makes it hard to meet new people who don't understand what it's like to work and go to school, and would rather spend all of their free time partying.  Also the cops in Boulder are very harsh when it comes to students in the dorms.  Men walk around the halls late at night and stare into your room if you leave your door open, which can be very uncomfortable an distracting.  All in all, my first year in college was far from what I expected it to be.  I thought I would meet a lot of new people and work hard towards my education but instead, I spend my time listening to arrogant kids complain about getting in trouble and bragging about the 800 dollar/month apartment their parents will be paying for them to live in next year.  If you are looking for a school with open-minded and friendly students who care about their education, then you should look into other schools.  O ya, and tuition is going up for incoming freshman while the quality of education is going down due to classes being cut and bigger class sizes.

responseWell, as long as there are people like you at Boulder and not just the rich douchebags, I think I might like the university.

questionI won't have trouble paying for a place to live or anything if I attend this school, but I am by no means rich or wealthy. I'm down to earth and like down to earth people, are there enough of those people at this school to make it worth going to, because as far as I can tell, everything else about UC seems to be pretty nice.

questionDo you know any people currently at Boulder? (I'm being serious, not sarcastc - btw, I'm the poster above you.) Do you know if it fits the stereotype of having a bunch of pot heads and rich kids from Cali or are there actually normal, down to earth people there?

responseI go to Boulder, and I will say that there are many people from Cali, and many pot heads and yes rish kids, but NOT everyone! I did not have a hard time making friends with a variety of people, I think the people in Boulder are mostly good poeple, unlike what many others say. its surprising to me when peple are so dissatisfied with the peple there because I thought they were very friends and nice. Even the "pot heads" are often not BAD people. I am neither from Cali , nor a pot head nor rich. You also jsut have to find your kind of peple which for many isnt too hard..
