Like many others have said, if you're not interested in joining a fraternity or sorority, and if you're not majoring in some type of engineering, this probably isn't the place for you. The university prides itself over having such a diverse campus. I feel like I was tricked into coming here, imagining gobs of friendly, beanie-wearing hipsters who enjoy art and music and academics. In reality, the majority of students here are actually either from a suburb of Chicago or from China, and snobby, vapid, superficial students are easy to come by. If you like to drink, there's always an abundance of ragers to attend, as long as you're dressed in a slutty enough fashion to get in. If that's not your cup of tea, though, it will be tough making friends. I've experienced many a lonely night here at the U of I.
