The buses are always horribly late. There's a massive drug culture. I couldn't find anyone who wanted to be friends who wasn't smoking pot. The buildings are far away and not practical to get to. There is no unified campus or campus feel. The surrounding area is dangerous.

You're looking in the wrong places for friends then. I'm off campus 10 min from anywhere downtown living with 4 wonderful roommates that don't do drugs. It's dangerous in some parts of town, but that goes the same for every single city on Earth. You just have to be smart. No one's going to come after you for no reason. I've worked on projects with many wonderful hardworking students that want to be the best versions of themselves and better artists; each one of them full of drive towards their career/life target.
