This school is a pretty typical university. It considers itself cutting edge but it's pretty banal.

You may read this school is a party school, that is a lie. Those stats a based on how many people say certain buzzwords on social media or self report in surveys. For example the words smoke, party, 420 friendly, lit = loads of parties apparently. Yes, people smoke here; no, not much more than other schools. This state has a heroin problem (don't do it).

This school is ruled by progressives and liberals. It is very pro minority but has very few. Attacking people with conservative or traditional beliefs/backgrounds is considered OK, and promoted as part of a good learning experience. I alter my southern accent when at school. I am afraid to tell people I am in the military at this school. I have been called a "baby-killer," openly by a student. I am not in Greek life but, this school will openly bend and break rules to target anything they feel diminishes the school's image. UVM's stance on Greek life has been negative for decades. This is an example of how the university will posture itself against you if someone makes enough fuss. If you are offered a scholarship to entice you to come to the school, have them in writing guarantee and explain it. They will, and have re-written policies to reduce aid to fit a distribution of the student population. The university does not care if you do or do not graduate. You are a tuition payment to them. A pattern you will see is the departments are run by real people, and the university is run more corporately. Do not forget higher education is Big-Businuess.

The Athletic Training program is above stellar. It is the most competitive major at the university. The classes and hands on learning experiences are the best in the region.

If you do come here please look for good people in the crowd. They are there, I promise, probably hiding.
