This university pretty much demonstrates how broken our education system is. As someone with a learning and mental disability, I've been constantly facing an obstacle of all these absurd rules and policies imposed by this university. Now I have been suspended and there is actually no way to appeal a suspension in this university. Pretty much every school I've searched for actually allows students the opportunity to appeal their suspension… Yet UH cannot do the same and I even went as far as contacting the President's Office to appeal my suspension and to suggest that they give students the opportunity to appeal their suspensions like every other school. They would not budge. What was even much more disheartening was that President Khator came to our 600-person class on the first week of school and told us that:
  • we shouldn't have to
    be trapped in bureaucracy
  • most of the people at UH don't graduate on time and she wanted to change it, then proceeded to say that we shouldn't have to waste time and money following everything just to graduate
  • to contact office or the Academic Affairs should we encounter an obstacle that could hinder us from graduating on time
  • I contact her office, the Academic Affairs, and everyone I could think of whenever I faced an obstacle, it was as everything the President said came out of be bogus. I expected to be a year away from graduating, but now I will not be able to graduate on time. I won't even graduate for two more years now due to the fact that some of the courses I still need to take are only taught once per school year. Unbelievable.

commentAnd you wonder why UH has a graduation rate of less than 50%. No wonder people are not happy with this school. No one cares about you and no one will go out of their way to ever help you, so don't ever believe that bullsh*t whatever the President say that someone in this school will listen to you and help you. In this university, learning is not valued, and the only way for you to "succeed" in this school is to be obedient like a dog and beat the system.
Good grief.. you think this is unique to UH? This happens at every school… Go cry a river elsewhere because you couldnt get your affairs in order. You sound like someone that needs your hand held in life. UH probably did you a favor.
Oh I'm sorry? Yes I'm sure every school is like this but I've been having so many problems in my life so maybe you should shut up and see what's it like to be in my shoes.
responseBut I get it.. Maybe I expected way too much from a school and I don't really know what reality is so there's that.
responseLooking at the statistics it seems that this school has a retention issue. Also you do know at ANYTIME you can go above the school's heads, correct? What they are doing to you is medical discrimination and not accomadating the student when you have, in writing, stating such conditions is illegal. Since you have already attempted to retify the situation with the school and they refuse to budge then you can contact not only an attorney that deals with colleges, but also medical-right groups and the boards of education if you have to.

You mention burecracy but that is book talk. Colleges are business places and in order to be successfully you have to think ahead of the game. If you come with the general student attitude and mindset you will get roasted, as you have experienced.
If what you are claiming to be true is, then you have every right to pursue your degree or even better yet transfer over to another school that can accomodate your medical conditions.
