The professors are essentially a grab bag.Quite BrightArt & Design Department
The professors are essentially a grab bag. You will find some that are amazing at what they do, some that have never taught the subject before. This seems to happen more in the foundations. Some teachers will grade based on your improvement. Those are the ones who understand that not all students want to be drawing for the rest of their life. some teachers how ever seem to grade on the belief that in order to get any thing higher than a C you should have already taken the class at least once.

I really feel like that all the money we throw at SCAD is used with the intention to make SCAD look better with the students as an after thought. The library has over 70 new iMacs which cost about $1300 each. How ever when my Motorcycle was vandalized IN THE GATED DYSON PARKING LOT! not 200 feet from the security guards They have no cameras any were except the entrances so the only thing they did was call a cop who gave me crap about no knowing my social security number.

The food is barely eatable even if you are starving. And it's never worth the $7 a meal they charge you.

The dorms are alright. Over priced but Turner House has nothing dramatically wrong with it.
SCAD WILL TAKE EVERY PENNY THEY CAN EVERY CHANCE THEY GET. There are tons of different fees and charges and peniltys every time you turn around. Do your reserch. Try and get some scholorships and make sure to keep you GPA above a 3.0. That's how they are able to give money to incoming 50% of students every year, most aren't able to keep it past their first quarter.

Question
Well, I have enjoyed most of my professorsQuite BrightArt & Design Department
Well, I have enjoyed most of my professors here ar SCAD. They are predominantly kind and accessible. The students are scene-y dipwads, but welcome to art school. My main issue is regarding things to do, and transportation, and most importantly food. There is nothing to do in Savannah. I am mostly a recluse, but even a recluse enjoys going out from time to time. I feel isolated, especially since scad faculty convinced my folks not to allow me to bring my car. They do that. I havent been to the movies in ages. scad transportation is deplorable. There arent enough buses and the ones that go to the mall, wal mart, etc only go on friday and saturday. These buses are difficult to catch. and if you miss your bus at the mall etc, youre stuck for 3 hours until the next one comes. The food is horrible. I feel absolutely awful when I eat it, and this quarter, I've gotten food poisoning twice just this quarter. The last time really knocked the wind out of me, and i havent been eating much, leading to an influx of hypoglycemia-like symptoms like dizziness, headaches, and stomachaches. This is because I am terrified of the cafeteria. the food is disgusting and I simply cannot eat it. I think I'm dying. but im a hypochondriac, so dont mind me. I might be overreacting.

Question
SCAD is a bad institution riding on aQuite BrightDesign Arts - Industrial Design/Graphic Design/etc
SCAD is a bad institution riding on a good name. It presents a pretty picture on first glance, but it is outrageous. They have no REAL financial aid to offer anyone other than monsterous loans. Their financial aid office has a "non commitment policy, which means they can only tell you what options for loans are out there, but they will not give you any advice on which ones are better or even help you compare them. The academic advising office doesn't know it's rear-end from a hole in the ground and gives out irrelevant advice.

and if you get sick, you might as well go wait in the emergency room. They have ONE NURSE PRACTICTIONER TO SEE EVERYONE. Seriously, one nurse to see EVERYONE, students, faculty, staff. So, if you don't get to the walk in hours by like, 9:30, they turn you away. Its really an inappropriate set up for a school with this many people.

I continue to vent about my current situation... which i just wanted to put out there, continue to read if you like, but if not, know that SCAD is an uncompromising institution which does not care about it's students, only their tuition money. As a student at SCAD, I've run into a rather puzzeling, but not uncommon problem with what you would think is an easy fix. I need a particular class to graduate, but it is not being offered in the quarter I need to take it in to graduate. The school's policy in such a situation is to have the student complete an independent study. Seems like an easy solution, right? WRONG. The department chair refused to grant me an independent study saying that it would, "damage the sanctity or the program." The big problem here is without being able to take this class in the quarter I need it to graduate, I CANT GRADUATE!!! Here's why: I will then have to attend school taking one course per quarter, which means I can't take out student loans to pay for that one class, or for living in savannah. Which means, I can't go to school. I also will lose my health insurance, so if something happens -- I'm totally screwed. I've been all the way up the ladder of command with this, and even at the president's office all I have heard from them is, "Opps, Sorry about that! Guess you'll have to find another way to pay for it!!"
