I don't know what others are saying, butAverageBiology
I don't know what others are saying, but here's my experience with this school. Yeah the school is pretty much out there to get your money. For example they raise the tuition and parking permits just to build a new deck and a football team(totally uncalled for). The parking permits are purchase to allow students to park any day the university is open, however during special events you are not allowed to park in some areas, resulting lack of space, yet you still pay full price for permit. The good side of this school is that the library is pretty good. Also as you move up to your major courses the professor tends to be very knowledgeable, but that means that the grade are harder to earn, but they will be understanding and will try to help you if you have difficulties.

Question
UNCC is absolutely awful.Quite BrightBiology
UNCC is absolutely awful. Their Science department is literally the worst I have ever seen. I've seen people's tests at USC, Chapel Hill, and other RESPECTED universities, and none of their tests are as ridiculous as UNCC's. Their Chemistry and Biology departments are absolutely infuriating. The way they teach, the way they grade, and even the way they speak. These professors are clowns. The truth is, at UNCC, you're going to have to bust your @$$ to get A's and B's like me, but for what? At nearly ANY other University around this area, you don't have to try half as hard, you get better grades, and you get a degree from an actually respectable university. It's stupid and unfair. I was forced to go to UNCC and I will do my absolute best to transfer. DO NOT come to UNCC if you are looking to go to Medical/Dental/Veterinary school. They are absolutely terrible when it comes to science. I've had good grades all my life. At UNCC, the teachers pretend like they want to help you, but in reality, they do not care at all. You are just another student passing through. The Biology teachers all ask outlandish questions on their tests, and just about everyone will make a D or a C on their tests. They act like they are doing this to help you, but how does that help anyone? They kill your GPA, which makes you look awful especially since UNCC is considered #197 in rankings on U.S college rankings. (After UNCC everything has a "rank not published" so it's safe to say UNCC is near last here.)

Sciences here at UNCC ARE NOT GOOD. If you are not coming here for Science classes, then this place will be a little bit better for you (Just a little)

On the social side of things...This place is a commuter school, plain and simple. There is no sense of identity to be found in the UNCC "community". People dread coming here, and it's obvious. They come here, then they try their best to get out and go home. I've visited many other Colleges, and not a single one of them felt anything like UNCC. People over here are confrontational, rude, and obviously want to be left alone. I have enough friends here, but don't expect to bump into anyone nice here after the first week...oh and if you do? They are probably commuters anyway. Everyone goes home over the weekend, because really there isn't anything to do here. The frats here are a joke. It's absolutely hilarious watching these kids walk around campus. Literally anyone can join, which isn't exactly a bad thing, but somehow they managed to make it a bad thing.. You have literally every type of failure joining these frats, and these kids do nothing but ruin everyone else's day. Sorority girls are....odd. There's literally only one sorority that has some normal people in it. The rest are full of rednecks who just love the confederate flag. UNCC has too many hypocrites and Bible loving kids walking around this place. This would be easy to ignore, if basically everything else didn't suck.

Nothing to do on campus..at all. Want to go to a party? Go to a club instead. Parties here are hilariously bad. The gym here is extremely small, and far away from literally every single residence hall on campus. My advice? Find another university. This was my last choice, and I was forced to go here for a reason (a bad one at that).

Question
Do not take science courses here unless theyQuite BrightBiology
Do not take science courses here unless they are the most basic courses offered! The reason they call it a "pre-biology" major is because they purposefully try to fail most of the students so that they cannot move on to the Biology 2130 course. Most of the class failed Biology 2120. I am in a learning community along with many other pre-biology students, we have study groups together, we have many of the same classes, and we all talk about the course with the other students as well, but only a very small percent of us (2 out of 30 that I've talked to) have passed the class. One would think that the department would do something about the exams that ask for random facts, or at least tell the professor to answer questions, but the department's goal is to weed as many people out as possible. As for chemistry, the department REALLY doesn't care. Many individual professors are ok, but according to not only my classmates and I, but also re-attending students who have already graduated from other universities, these are the worst courses and department for chemistry that any of us have heard of. You would be wise to take your chemistry courses at community college if you absolutely want to go to this university. The "people in charge" to be vague, do not at all care, your professor could "lose your exam" and fail you, and the department would not do anything in the slightest, no matter how much you discussed this with them or brought in outside sources. I'm not sure how the other science departments are, but if they are anything like these two, they are not at all acceptable for a university. Do not take science courses here, that is the moral of the story.Aside from academics, this school fools you into thinking it's nice looking and modern. Yes, there are a few buildings, such as the Student Union and CHHS building that look nice all throughout the insides, but the buildings are only nice on the outside. The insides of these buildings are often old, somewhat worn-out, musty, and uncomfortable to be in. Unfortunately, the high-rise dorm buildings are the worst buildings to be in. They have concrete-like floors and walls, low ceilings, dim lighting, little natural light, are very hard to breathe in, and you can expect to see bugs on a daily basis. The school doesn't seem very safe either, I always hear about people getting mugged, usually with the threat of assault. They have police patrolling the area, but for some reason they never catch anyone being mugged, despite how frequently it happens. The dining areas are absolutely terrible. I feel like I'm eating welfare food, which would be fine if they did not force freshman to buy a meal plan for nearly two thousand dollars a semester. The ingredients are so bad, and everything is loaded with oil and salt. It is disgusting, and it makes me sick. I feel better and more energetic when I don't eat anything at all, or even when I go to a fast food restaurant off campus. The people here are not that great, unless you're a young adult from Charlotte or the surrounding areas, you probably won't like it. A lot of people like it here, I think it's because of the whole "school pride" that people at most universities have. Most of the school is from Charlotte or nearby areas, so they might have been planning to go there for a while or may have been more accustomed to it. However, in the end I've realized that they fooled me into thinking it's a nice campus during orientation and whatnot, but now I regret coming here.
