Positive Negative Neutral Advice
I would honestly encourage prospective students to disregardQuite BrightAccounting
I would honestly encourage prospective students to disregard the majority of negative commentary for this sole reason: the reviewers have made the mistake of judging only the social aspects of the university, not the most important factors. Attending a post-secondary institute is not about partying or getting wasted to the point of inducing a coma.

UNC Charlotte, like a majority of Southern schools, is fairly conservative. That means that drinking/partying is often secondary to academics. The South (including the city of Charlotte and surrounding areas) has seen many commonplace jobs (such as millwork) disappear in the past decade, ever increasing the need for a college degree in order to maintain a stable career. Yes, UNCC mostly functions as the community's university, given that it is an excellent source of affordable education for lower income families that live in the area. However, don't be mistaken; there are plenty of determined, intellectual international students I have met that attend UNCC.

UNCC is an excellent for its academia. The university itself is located a ways away from the actual city of Charlotte, though a short drive down I-85 will take you right downtown for all of the entertainment. The university is also currently expanding. In its growth it has also lowered admission standards to fill the colleges, but I see UNCC becoming competitive within the next five years: especially with the new football team planned for 2013.

Question
Contrary to most of the posts here, UNCCAccounting
Contrary to most of the posts here, UNCC is more than just an English major University.. I have heard bad stories about that dept but so what!!! UNCC is not a bad school. School is what you make of it and as long as you pick a good major, things WILL work out for you, period. I was an accounting major and as my senior year came to a close, I already had 7 interviews lined up and had accepted a job a month before graduation! Hmmm? I have been working for a year now and planning on going to grad school for MBA or MAcc in another year.. I will probably go elsewhere, like Charleston or UGA for grad school, but UNCC is not as bad as everyone says it is...

Question
I left UNCC last ear to pursue aNot so bright
I left UNCC last ear to pursue a different way of accessing a much more lucrative career. With required travel and tuition at this alternate method, It actually costs less that UNCC.

Maybe if one is into engineering, UNCC is a good place to study. For me, I felt the environment stifling, the teachers unhappy, and the students preoccupied with their off-campus jobs. Really good teachers b*tched about being adjunct teachers with no benefits.

Because UNC is a state funded school it accepts everyone in the state. Be prepared to attend a class with the blind, the crippled, and the crazy. (That does not include the faculty).

Bottom line: you will be better off sticking your nose into one of the noisy buses that delivers a lot of the people who attend UNCC.Don't get me wrong. This is a great school for a certain kind of person, but it's not for me.
