While the majority of comments made in reviews here have some truth to them (the fat sorority sluts, the lack of diversity), I have had an amazing time at Binghamton, have met wonderful friends, and have had plenty of awesome experiences...

The worst things about Binghamton are the gen ed. classes, with 400 students and shitty professors (ie Jane Connor), the fact that the adminstration really doesn't care about you, the campus is relatively segregated (both by "types"-ie in the dormitories and by race in some ways), and the amount of Long Island snobs.

The BEST things about Binghamton, aside from it being cheap: There are amazing opportunties in the surrounding area, ESPECIALLY for social science folk...internships in that area abound (as well as teaching, etc), there are SOOOO many different student organizations to get involved in (seriously, I found out about one last week where people listen to music and discuss it high-fidelity style), and some of the departments (mine are sociology and theatre) are seriously top-notch.The biggest point about Binghamton is that you have to make your own good time. There are great opportuntities, and lots of interesting things to do around town, but they're not easy to find. Talk to students, talk to professors, meet people outside of the university even. I would also seriously recommend the study abroad program...the office of international programs is truly a gem on this campus, and studying abroad through a SUNY is DIRT CHEAP. But remember that your college experience is what you make it, and you can have a crappy time at Yale and a great time here.

Question
Although different colleges have different reputations, I thBrightUndecided
Although different colleges have different reputations, I thought that college was college and I would have a good time anywhere I went. However, after coming here I realize how much of a disaster this school is. First off, I like to have fun and party (a lot), and most kids here are not like that. I'm sorry but playing games on your computer 24-7 is not my idea of a new and fun experience (aka college). The majority of kids here are dorks, hippies, asians who think they are ghetto, ugly girls who think they are better than you, and long islanders who come here with plenty of kids they know from high school and therefore have no need or desire to make new friends and meet new people. In fact, from what I have seen most kids who come here know people they went to high school with, and consequently if you want to make new friends it can be very hard. Because of that I still feel like I am in high school. Everyone here is in their little clique, and god forbid you try to be a part of them it's nearly impossible. I have met many people here, but when seeing them for a second time, whether its walking back from class or at a party, most don't say hi again and some even refuse to make eye contact, this is very frustrating, I am just trying to make new friends. In addition, I met some kids who lived in Newing, and when I would go over there to hang out the kids in their hall would all look at me like there was a problem, instead of wanting to make friends. Many frat kids live in Newing, and although it may seem like a good idea to join a frat here based on the lack of social life most frat kids here are complete idiots who think they are the shit for no particular reason. Everyone here has an ego and thinks they are tough, and I have seen plenty of fights at parties. Of course if you like watching kids get cracked over the head with beer bottles then you won't mind all the beef. With no football team, miserable weather, a sub par basketball team, a former wrestling team that no longer exists because this school is broke, segregated dorming communities, a half mile walk just to go to the gym, terrible food, snotty people, and an overall lack of school spirit, Binghamton may be the place for you.

Question
I've reviewed Binghamton on this site a fewBrightUndecided
I've reviewed Binghamton on this site a few times and read others' reviews. To be totally fair, it seems like you either love it or hate it here. Personally I hate it, but not everyone feels that way, though I get the feeling that a lot of people do for the reasons mentioned (location, weather, cliquishness, Newing). From my personal observations I'd say about a third of the students hate Binghamton, a third think it's okay/like it just enough not to transfer out, and a third come here and love it. But keep in mind, those who do love it still acknowledge it isn't exactly a spunky lively hip place. If you care more about campus life than city life you will probably like Binghamton and if you care more about city life you will ultimately bored and angry here.
