Positive Negative Neutral Advice
Temple doesn't have the greatest reputation in theQuite BrightArchitecture
Temple doesn't have the greatest reputation in the Philly area but the quality of schooling is much higher than you might expect. The campus is expanding and always seems to be improving. Fox Business school is nationally ranked as is the law school. Tyler school of art (including the architecture dept.) is gaining national recognition and is moving from a suburban satellite campus to a state of the art facility on the main campus. The students are friendly and the faculty is, for the most part, helpful. Temple sports leave something to be desired by the football team has made great improvement and was actually .500 in conference this year. The only negative is the lack of things to do on campus at night but there are plenty of open houses and parties always going on and center city is only a short train or subway ride away. Safety in North Philly is a concern but the Temple Police (the third largest police force in the state) does the best that anyone could ask from them. As a student you have to think about your own safety and not tempt fate. Dorm life varies from person to person. 1300, 1940, and White hall have all been built in the last decade and are all suite style. The Edge apartment complex is supposed to be upperclassmen only but was home to some freshman this year because of a very large incoming class. Johnson, Hardwick and Peabody are all traditional style dorms. Peabody is by far the oldest and most in need of renovation but is also the most loved by its residents. Housing for upperclassmen is not guaranteed and is first come, first serve. Many move into houses or apartments in University Village, The Edge, The Kardon Atlantic Terminal, ect. As far as food is concerned, there are two options of eating at the traditional dining hall (all you can eat) or at the Student Center (Affectionately called the SAC). The SAC is home to a la carte options including sushi, smoothies, pasta, Philly favorites, samwiches, taco bell, Burger King, Chinese (though this inst the greatest and is referred to as SACanese). There are also plenty of places on or near campus that are cheap and many take cash or Diamond Dollars (student debit accounts connected to your ID). Richie's next to Gladfelter and Anderson Hall is a personal favorite as is Temple Star on Diamond St. (they're open until 3 or 4 and deliver).

Question
The Fox School of Business at Temple hasQuite BrightAccounting
The Fox School of Business at Temple has begun to enforce their class enrollment limits without raising the number of classes provided for each course which means that every semester the classes fill up before all the students who need to take the course get to sign up. When there is more demand for a course, a new class is not opened up. Students are told to wait for a spot to open in the class. This waiting can go into the first week of classes and can leave the student starting the class at a disadvantage. This seems to be to prevent students from finishing their degree in four years. I do not feel as though I am being provided the services that I expect from a school that I am paying for.

Question
For the purpose of being completely honest, myQuite BrightAccounting
For the purpose of being completely honest, my main motivation for going to Temple University was based on the very large scholarship I received. I had applied to over 10 schools, and had not anticipated going here. But even though my decision was based on personal finances, if I had known then what I know now, I may have been willing to pay the full out-of-state price. I really love this university. The people are extremely nice, and for someone who visits private catholic colleges often, I can guarantee that Temple students are much nicer. The academics are challenging, especially if you're in the honors program, but the challenge is always to your benefit. There is not a ton of mandatory work, but the work that you are given is always graded and is an good assessment of your knowledge of the subject matter. The dorms are about a 7/10 in terms of comfort, but the lack of wireless in certain dorms is frustrating. There is always new construction, and its exciting to walk into Alter Hall (the main Business School building) which is new as of 2008 and is gorgeous inside and out. I believe 3 or 4 new buildings will be completed in the next couple years. The social life is very good at Temple, and while partying off campus is an option, the sheer volume of people and the its proximity to Center City, Philadelphia assures that being bored on weekends is difficult. The only gripes I have is with the safety off campus. It is a problem, and going off campus at night in North Philly can be risky depending on where you go. However, that should not detract from the excellence of the rest of the college.
